RUSC Programs
Travel Soccer: Girls and Boys compete against teams from neighboring communities within the Middlesex Youth Soccer League. Single gender rosters are assembled each season using 2-year age brackets, with the youngest being Under 10 (U10 ages 8-9) and organized into competitive divisions (1-5). Travel teams frequently choose to play together in Holiday weekend tournaments where the players and their families have the opportunity to hang out together for 2-3 days of soccer filled adventures (rain or shine - - or snow).
Fall: Open to players in U10, U12 and U14 age groups. The season runs for 9 weeks, beginning with the first Saturday after Labor Day. Tryouts typically are held in June.
Spring: Open to players in U10-U18 age groups. The season runs for 9 weeks, beginning in the first weekend in April. U10-U14 teams play on Saturdays while the older age groups play on Sundays. The MYLS Spring Season is generally viewed as more competitive than the Fall Season, and concludes with post-season competition, including the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) and the MYSL Commissioner's Cup. Tryouts typically are held in November.
In-Town Soccer: The in-town programs focus on instruction and fun - lots of touches on the ball but no league competition.
Micro: The Micro Program offers early developmental opportunities for the Pre-K through U8 Youth Soccer Players in a fun and supportive environment. Micro seasons, usually 6 weeks in duration - one practice/game per week, are held outdoors in the fall and spring, and indoors during the winter.
Summer: The Summer Soccer Season begins the week after schools let out with a season that lasts 6-8 weeks - depending upon field availability. Most teams meet twice each week for practices and games in Reading. The Summer program is open to all Reading Children from Pre-K through U12 (older players may be accomodated as well) with roster composition determined largely by the make-up of the registered players.
Indoor: Each winter, RUSC operates a skills session for all Reading's Youth Soccer Players, usually in the RMHS Hawkes Field House. These sessions have been taught by a combination of professional coaches and RUSC's most experienced volunteers.
Club Soccer: Club soccer provides an opportunity for committed Youth Soccer Players to hone their skills at an accelerated pace on teams comprised of players from multiple communities that compete in highly competitive leagues.
Red Thunder: Teams are formed around a core of dedicated Reading players and compete in fall, winter indoor and spring seasons. The Red Thunder program has developed a low cost infrastructure that enables the Club to field highly competitive teams with player fees set at a fraction of the prices set by most other club soccer organizations.
Challenger Soccer: Soccer skills development training for players with intellectual disabilities.
Community Involvement: RUSC funds two scholarships each year in recognition of the contibution made by two noteworthy former members of the Club. Both awardees are selected each year by the RMHS Athletic Director.
The Jon Javor scholarship has been dedicated to Jon's memory and is awarded to a male scholar-athlete whose determination in soccer will help preserve the passion Jon felt for the community and soccer program.
The Steve Collins award is dedicated to Steve's memory and given to a female scholar-athlete whose dedication to Reading soccer reflects Steve's passion & commitment.
